Kristin is registered to practice across Canada and offers both in-person sessions in Kelowna, BC and virtual counselling in Canada & the USA.

With more than twenty years of experience, Kristin brings professional training, advocacy, and meaningful lived experience. She has worked in women’s shelters since age twenty and builds education programs for national foundations such as Mamas for Mamas.

Ideal Referral Situations

Consider referral when a client is:

  • Struggling emotionally during separation

  • Experiencing high conflict or communication breakdown

  • Overwhelmed or unable to make decisions

  • Navigating coercive or abusive relationship dynamics

  • Impacted by chronic stress or anxiety affecting proceedings

  • Concerned about co-parenting stability

Collaboration Approach

  • Independent clinical support aligned with ethical counselling standards

  • Clinically focused support informed by family law contexts, without providing legal advice

  • Clear professional boundaries maintained

  • Collaborative communication when appropriate and consented to

  • Expert help in abuse dynamics

  • Only work with individuals, not couples, ensuring there is no conflict of interest

The counselling services offered through Modern Health Solution™ are designed to support individuals navigating the emotional and psychological impact of separation, relationship breakdown, and abuse dynamics. The following overview helps referring professionals determine when a referral may be appropriate.

Clients Who Are a Good Fit

Services are generally appropriate for individuals who:

  • Are navigating separation or divorce and would benefit from emotional support and stabilization

  • Are considering separation and require assistance in planning an exit

  • Are experiencing anxiety, overwhelm, grief, or confusion related to family law matters

  • Are working to understand patterns of coercive control, emotional abuse, or unhealthy relationship dynamics

  • Are seeking support to rebuild confidence, clarity, and personal stability after relationship breakdown

  • Want guidance around boundaries, communication, and co-parenting transitions

  • Are motivated to engage in reflective counselling and personal growth

  • Require assistance in planning and navigating psychological or physical safety

  • May be experiencing the emotional or physical impacts of prolonged stress or trauma during legal processes

  • Are seeking a structured space to process decisions and maintain emotional steadiness during legal proceedings

Clients Who May Not Be a Good Fit

There are circumstances where a client may require a different type of professional support or service.

Examples include:

  • Individuals identified as the primary perpetrator of coercive control, intimate partner violence, or abuse

  • individuals requiring perpetrator intervention or behavioural accountability programs

  • Clients seeking legal advice, mediation services, or legal strategy guidance

  • Situations requiring court-ordered assessments, expert reports, or custody evaluations

  • Individuals requiring acute crisis intervention or emergency safety planning

  • Clients requiring specialized psychiatric care, addiction treatment, or intensive clinical services beyond the scope of counselling

Kristin has extensive training in abuse dynamics. If there are abuse dynamics present, she works specifically with individuals who have experienced the abuse, rather than providing intervention services for perpetrators.

If a Client Is Not a Fit

If during intake or early sessions it becomes clear that a client’s needs fall outside the scope of this practice:

  1. The situation will be discussed openly and respectfully with the client

  2. Appropriate referrals to other professionals or specialized services will be provided whenever possible

  3. If the referral originated from a lawyer, confirmation that the client has been redirected to appropriate support can be provided with client consent

The goal is always to ensure that individuals receive the most appropriate support for their situation, even when that support is best provided through another professional or program.
